"Behold! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…" Rev. 3:20

Ben Franklin’s Philadelphia

We took a break from Five-in-a-Row the past few weeks and learned about Ben Franklin, colonial America, and the history of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia.

We took advantage of our proximity to Philadelphia, and took some great field trips, including a trip to the Fireman’s Hall Museum (which not only counted as a history lesson, but as fire safety, too) and a trip to Elfreth’s Alley which is the oldest still-inhabited residential street in the nation.

After reading about Ben Franklin’s role in establishing Philadelphia’s first fire company, Thomas tried out some firefighter gear, which he said was “too heavy!”

Here Thomas stands on cobblestones more than two centuries old on Elfreth's Alley.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, we’ll soon re-visit some historical Philadelphia sites such as Christ Church where Benjamin Franklin is buried, Independence Hall, and the Betsy Ross House.
